The content of this course places an emphasis on the importance of text. Upon reflecting on the four units, I found a strong connection between the assigned readings and the ability to evoke powerful reactions through text. I have included my reactions and responses to compelling texts selected from each unit.

Part of the Humanities curriculum includes attending at least three cultural events on campus per semester. These events can be anything from lectures to discussions; concerts to performances; exhibits to presentations. For the first semester, I went to a student performance of a Tchaikovsky concert, a lecture presented by two visiting artists, and the Davidson Theatre Company’s production of Macbeth. And, during our brief time on campus during the second semester, I attended the Bryan Stevenson lecture and lectures on Romare Bearden and Native American slavery.
